The city, already populated in Roman times, is situated on one of the important roads of Central Europe connecting Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. It is a city where the pleasing harmony of different architectural styles and superb structures, cafes, gastronomy and culture are combined with the legendary Hungarian hospitality, blending into an unforgettable experience for visitors. Győr is also the home of “szóda” – carbonated water, invented by the local benedictine monk Ányos Jedlik, who also invented the dynamo preceding Faraday by some years.
